My first college exam

well on Friday 9/25/09 I had my first chem exam. Not knowing how hard it will be I studied like a maniac. But when the test as given and I finally took it, I found it to be exactly what I studied. There weren't any trick questions or something we didn't go over, we went over everything and it seemed fair. I just hope I did well and every chem test is like this one. Also this was my first college exam, so before going to the test I was so nervious, that I was afraid that I would mess up the test by being so nervious. Now I know I have nothing to be nervious about. I just hope to do well on it and all the other exams.

Freedom Posters

Looking at the original posters my favorite one in particular was the Freedom from Want. Looking at the family eating together, make me think that they may not be allowed by a government, but our government allows that and President Roosevelt proved that to us before our involvement in the second world war. But this is more than being able to eat a meal with your family, it is about ensuring that we are allowed to think on our own and not be told what to think and want. We have alot of freedom in this country, and these posters are thier just honoring it. But all the posters have postitive meaning, I just like this one in particular, because I am so close to my family, not just my immediate, but also my aunts, uncles, and cousins. This poster hit home for me

Eid al Fitr

As I posted in my last blog, Sunday 9/20/09 was a major muslim Holiday. After fasting for 30 days I finally got to celebrate. This is one of the two major muslim holidays and generally regarded as the most important, because this occurs after ramadan, the most holy month of the year. Eid Al Fitr is like our Christmas. But during the month of Ramandan, we must not only not eat from sunrise to sunset, but also hold our tongue. We must not say bad things to or about people. We must pray more, like on a normal day we pray 5 times, but in Ramadan we must pray an extra prayer at night that takes alot longer than an average prayer. We must reflect on what kind of Muslims are we, are good muslims or are we muslims that need to work hard to become good muslims. We must give alot of charity during ramadan, like our yearly dues to the poor. Our yearly dues to the poor is like tax, if we don't give it is like a bad thing. We fast so that we feel how a person feel when they don't have food.
But finally on Sunday we could celebrate, we ate talked laughed and had a great time. We went to many homes and had food and just generally had a great time. I am just happy that I can now have lunch with some friends, and not just see them eat in front of my face.

The Power of Words

Many major events in the past have been recorded with words. Look at the first human going to the moon, "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."-JFK Words are a means of communication and persuasion, for instance look at politicians, the only way that people elect them and know what they stand for is by their words, no matter how much of that is garbage. Look at persuation, one man got a whole country to commit genocide. Hitler was a crazy person, but a great speaker, he made a whole country think that killing off so many people is an okay thing to do.
On sunday 9/20/09 I celebrated a major muslim holiday Eid al Fitr. Eid al Fitr comes to the end of every Ramadan and is celebrated all around the world. But on every Eid, we have our Iman, or religious leader speak to us. He said a few things that are very powerfull, such as that we must forgive. All the disagreements that people have should be forgiven. He further went on to say that never hold grudges and always think of that bad incident when you see someone. We as muslims are peacefull people and we must act peaceful. Then he also went on and told us to practice our religion properly like pray five times give charity and respect one's spouse ect. But throughout that speech people were captivated, the words had so muck power, even though this was a pretty common speech.
The power of words is everywhere you see. Look at the fundamentals of our country, as other students pointed out, the constitution and the declaration of independence are a prime example of the power of words. When the early colonies declared independence that was something that never happened before, Britain was one of the, or the, strongest country on this planet at that time. Our Bill of rights insures us rights by our country. Without that we have nothing to protect us from our government. Words was something of proof that slavery was abolished, and words were something that proved that woman can vote, and words were something that 18 year old had the right to vote etc.
Words will always have power, whether it be bad or good. We must take note of the power of words so that another Hitler will never happen again. But hope that good change will happen like the abolishion of slavery. I never thought of the power of words until now, looking at it there are careers build of the power of words, like authors, speech writers and Lawyers. At work I even see little kids who can barely talk try to persuade their parents to buy them candy. I see that words give me the right to actively participate voting without any problem. I now see that words may be the most powerful thing in the world.

Health Affects all Ages

Last week Sunday we get a call from a relative that lives in Chicago. It so happens that my cousin, who happens to be 37 years old, is having a triple bypass surgery. I could not believe it, since most individuals who have this surgery done on them are much older more like in their upper 40's and up. So the surgey was schedualed for 7:00 AM friday morning, being that I have a three day weekend I went along with many of my extended family. Leaving Canton at 10:00PM, we did not reach Chicago till 2:45 AM. Finally went to sleep around three, woke up at 5:30 to eat, due to my fasting, got ready and went to the hospital at 6:00Am. Then went to Friday prayers at 12:30 PM and finally left Chicago at 4:30 PM.
I finally get home around 10:00PM and went to sleep. Aside from all my lack of sleep, I realized that at 37 I could be having that surgery and maybe even worse. I have come to the realization that I must take care of myself now, not later when the damage could already be done. But the surgery went well and he woke up at 5:30 Pm and was in good spirits, he just wanted a Big Mac.

My First Day of Class

Through the early morning mist, I made my half hour long drive to the University of Michigan Dearborn. Today was the first day of my four year long trek through the training of my future career. Though I generally like driving, today was the worst driving experience I have ever had. It took me 25 minutes to find a parking space, I went through almost every parking lot until I finally find a space at the back of the parking lot that was at the complete end of the campus. Well, that is a great way to start out my college career, by being honked at and almost getting hit in the parking lot every five minutes.
But after the hole almost getting hit by another car, and driving endlessly looking for a parking space, the day ended up being a good day. I have good professors and the classes seem to be interesting. Just hope tommorrow's parking will be easier!
